After spending a rigorous 12-month stint on the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly is scheduled to return to Earth in March. It will be the longest mission any astronaut has ever spent in space.

On the day of his landing, PBS will premiere the first part of the two-part documentary "A Year In Space," chronicling Kelly's record-breaking space journey. The network has released a trailer, which offers some fascinating insight into Kelly's mindset during the days leading up to his mission.

"A lot could happen in a year. The biggest concern that I have is not really about my personal safety. It is about something happening to someone on the ground. And then not being able to be there for them," Kelly says in the above preview. It's a statement that carries a lot of weight, considering that Scott Kelly's identical twin brother, astronaut Mark Kelly, made the decision to retire from NASA after his wife, former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, was seriously wounded by a gunshot to the head in a failed assassination attempt in 2011.

Directed by Shaul Schwarz (Narco Cultura), "A Year In Space" is an extended feature-length version of the 11-part online documentary series of the same name, which was previously released and produced by Time Magazine. As a part of the network's upcoming programming block "Space Week," PBS will be premiering the doc. on Wednesday, March 2nd.

PBS is also planning the air the second part of "A Year In Space" in 2017, as it will follow a year in Scott Kelly's life on Earth after living in space.
