At one point in their lives, they were very good friends. But who's to say legendary magician/escape artist Harry Houdini and "Sherlock Holmes" creator/author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle weren't also a crime-investigating duo who tried to solve unsolved, supernatural-related crimes for Scotland Yard.
In FOX's new early-20th-century-set detective/mystery series "Houdini & Doyle," history gets rewritten, just a tad, as the real-life friendship between Houdini and Doyle is re-imagined as a crime-solving partnership.
Executive produced by "House" creator David Shore and created and written by David Titcher (House, Chicago P.D.) and David Hoselton (The Librarians), "Houdini & Doyle" stars Michael Weston (House, Scrubs) as the famed magician and paranormal debunker while English actor Stephen Mangan (Episodes) tackles the role of the celebrated British crime-fiction writer who was also known for being a paranormal enthusiast and had a strong interest in Spiritualism.
Up-and-coming actress Rebecca Liddiard (Between) also stars as a female constable in London who helps Houdini and Doyle with their investigations.
Emmy-winning director Stephen Hopkins (The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, 24) directs the first two episodes of the 10-part drama, which is set to premiere this spring. Watch the show's first trailer, above.
