Check out the official trailer for SundanceTV's new Southern-fried crime series "Hap and Leonard," starring James Purefoy (The Following), Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men).

Based on the novels by cult author Joe Lansdale (Bubba Ho-Tep, Cold in July), the 1980s-set darkly comic series centers on the unlikely friendship between a white East Texas tomcat named Hap Collins (Purefoy) and a tough black, gay Vietnam vet named Leonard Pine (Williams).

When Hap's sexy ex-wife (Hendricks) informs them of a get-rich-quick scheme, Hap and Leonard jump on the chance to make a fast buck, only to later regret that decision when they find themselves mixed up in a bad situation involving gun-toting revolutionaries, fist-punching psychos, and a large snapping alligator.

Co-starring Jimmi Simpson, Pollyanna McIntosh, and Bill Sage, the six-episode drama hails from writer-director Jim Mickle and actor-screenwriter Nick Damici, the same team behind the cult thrillers "Cold in July," "We Are What We Are" and "Stake Land."

"Hap and Leonard" premieres on Wednesday, March 2nd on SundanceTV.

synopsis:
Set in the late 1980s, "Hap and Leonard" is a darkly comic swamp noir story of two best friends, one femme fatale, a crew of washed-up revolutionaries, a pair of murderous psycho-killers, some lost loot and the fuzz.

Based on the novels by Joe R. Lansdale, the six-hour series event follows Hap Collins (James Purefoy), an East Texas white boy with a weakness for Southern women, and Leonard Pine (Michael Kenneth Williams), a gay, black Vietnam vet with a hot temper. When Hap’s seductive ex-wife Trudy (Christina Hendricks) resurfaces with a deal they can’t refuse, a simple get-rich-quick scheme snowballs into bloody mayhem. Chock full of eccentric characters, "Hap and Leonard" provides a country twist on the classic mystery thriller.
