It's Ralph Fiennes like you've never seen him before. He's overly excited, somewhat lecherous, and a bit "obscene" in the new international trailer for "A Bigger Splash," the vacation-gone-wrong drama that also stars Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton, "Fifty Shades" star Dakota Johnson, and Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts (Far from the Madding Crowd).
Reuniting with her "I Am Love" director Luca Guadagnino, Swinton plays a rock-n-roll superstar who is taking some time off from the music business as she recovers from vocal surgery at her Mediterranean villa. Staying with her current boyfriend (Schoenaerts), she sees her peaceful island vacation turn into a weekend of tension and sexual jealousy when her ex-flame and former record-producing partner (Fiennes in full-on fireball mode) suddenly shows up for a surprise visit. Also stirring the pot is Fiennes' not-so-demure daughter (played by Johnson) who is accompanying her father, but not necessarily following his lead.
"A Bigger Splash," which is loosely inspired by the 1969 French-Italian thriller "La Piscine," premiered at the 2015 Venice Film Festival where it received mostly positive reviews. It's now scheduled to open theatrically in the UK on February 12th. It's also slated to open in the U.S. on May 13th.
