Chi-Raq — New Featurette

Amazon Studios has released a new featurette for Spike Lee's latest film "Chi-Raq," which is also the streaming company's first original movie.

Addressing such hot-button issues as gun control and black-on-black crime, the Chicago-set film is a modern-day version of the ancient Greek play "Lysistrata," in which a community of women decide to withhold sexual favors from their husbands and boyfriends as a form of political and social protest against inner-city violence.

Featuring an impressive ensemble cast that includes Mad Men's Teyonah Parris, Samuel L. Jackson, Nick Cannon, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Wesley Snipes, and John Cusack, "Chi-Raq" was released in theaters a couple of weeks back. As of yesterday, the film became available for purchase and rent on Amazon, iTunes, and other digital platforms. It will also be available on Blu-Ray and DVD starting January 16th.

Amazon also has just announced that they will start streaming "Chi-Raq" on February 4th, free for Prime members.

synopsis:
Chi-Raq is a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes. After the murder of a Child by a stray bullet, a group of women led by Lysistrata organize against the on-going violence in Chicago's Southside creating a movement that challenges the nature of race, sex and violence in America and around the world.
