FOX has released a 21-minute-long "X-Files" featurette, offering an extensive and detailed look at the upcoming revival miniseries, which has brought the "band back together" for another mind-boggling investigation involving dark government secrets, unsolved mysteries, new strange monsters and head-scratching conspiracies.

"Re-opening" the files, the new promo re-examines both the show's history and the complicated relationship between FBI agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and his analytical partner Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson).

After years of being in a platonic relationship, Mulder and Scully were last seen as a romantic couple in the 2008 film. But as "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter explains in the above clip, fans won't necessarily see them back "together" -- at least, romantically speaking, in the new series: "We now find (Mulder and Scully) in another state. Seven or eight years have elapsed. And time has been difficult for their relationship. We will investigate what's happened in that time."

The featurette also provides a peek at the first episode of the new 6-part drama, which revolves a young woman, named Sveta (played by "The Americans" actress Annet Mahendru), who claims to have been abducted by aliens. She also mysteriously knows a lot of private things about Mulder and Scully's relationship. The case is brought to Mulder by a conservative talk-show host and part-time conspiracy hobbyist named Tad O'Malley, who is played by "Community" star and "X-Files" fanatic Joel McHale.

FOX will debut the new "X-Files" miniseries with a special two-night premeire starting on Sunday, January 24 and then on Monday, January 25 with the rest of the episodes airing on its regular Monday-night time slot.

Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES will be a thrilling, six-episode event series helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. Production on THE X-FILES event series is set to begin in summer 2015.

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time.
