The 5th Wave — Featurette: 'From Book to Film'

added: Tue, Dec 22nd '15

Unlike "The Hunger Games" or "The Divergent" or other young adult novels of that ilk, Rick Yancey's best-selling sci-fi book series "The 5th Wave" takes place in the present day. So in essence, the characters and their emotions are more identifiable and should be more palpable. That's the sentiment behind this new featurette for the big-screen adaptation of Yancey's bestseller, which follows a young teen girl (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) who tries to relocate her missing kid brother during an alien takeover of the Earth.

"It's our world. And it's this sort of 'what if' of an alien invasion scenario," says producer Lynn Harris in the above clip, which also points out that the book author is heavily involved in the production.

Directed by British helmer J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) and also starring Jurassic World's Nick Robinson, Ron Livingston, and Liev Schreiber, "The 5th Wave" will start invading theaters next month, January 22nd.

In the new film The 5th Wave, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie (Chloƫ Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope -- if she can only trust him.
