Why not kick off the new year with Sherlock Holmes!

What was initially believed to be a Christmas special, BBC has now announced that they will air the new "Sherlock Holmes" one-off special on New Year's Day. And the for the first time ever, it will be released in both in the U.S. and the U.K. on the same day.

Now titled "Sherlock Holmes: The Abominable Bride," the 90-minute TV movie sees Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman reprising their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. Only this time, the detective drama is taking place in the Victorian era, revolving around a mysterious murder with a possible connection to the past of a 19th-century Sherlock Holmes. Amanda Abbington, Rupert Graves, and Una Stubbs co-star.

Directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Doctor Who) from a script penned by "Sherlock" showrunners Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, "Sherlock Holmes: The Abominable Bride" will premiere on January 1, 2016, in the U.S. on PBS and in the UK on BBC ONE. It will also be made available for streaming on the PBS website. An encore presentation is scheduled for January 10th.
