Bill Murray plays a washed-up rock manager who is out to prove that he can still recognize talent wherever he sees it in the new trailer for director Barry Levinson's Afghanistan-set comedy "Rock the Kasbah."

The film -- which sees Murray engaged in all kinds of wild shenanigans after a failed USO concert tour leaves him stranded in Afghanistan -- is inspired by a true story about an American music manager who helped a young Afghan woman enter and compete in a local singing competition show called "The Afghan Star."

In addition to Murray, the upcoming movie features an all-star cast that includes Kate Hudson, Taylor Kinney, Zooey Deschanel, Danny McBride, Sarah Baker, Scott Caan, Bruce Willis and Palestinian actress Leem Lubany as the aspiring Afghan singer whom Murray inadvertently discovers while trying to find a way back to America.

Scheduled to open in theaters on October 23rd, "Rock the Kasbah" was written by Mitch Glazer, the creator of STARZ's short-lived mob casino series "Magic City" who also co-wrote Murray's classic 1988 Christmas comedy "Scrooged."

synopsis:
"Rock the Kasbah" is the story of Richie Lanz, a rock manager with a golden ear and a taste for talent, who has seen better times. When he takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan, she gets cold feet and leaves him penniless and without his passport in Kabul. While trying to find his way home, Richie befriends a band of misfits and discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice. Against all odds, Richie will take his last shot at creating an unlikely superstar.
