Does Matt Damon have the "right stuff"?

Damon undergoes a psychological evaluation in the new promotional video for director Ridley Scott's Mars-set survival drama "The Martian," which is based on author Andy Weir's best-selling novel about an astronaut who is accidentally stranded alone on Mars.

The three-minute-long short film shows each member of the ARES 3 crew (Damon, Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie) getting interviewed by a stodgy NASA psychologist after having gone through a 10-day training exercise in complete isolation.

And what the psychologist discovers at the end of his analysis is that astronauts like Damon's Mark Watney often answer questions with senseless comments: "How come Aquaman can control whales? Whales are mammals. It doesn't even make sense." Hmmm. Guess it doesn't.

"The Martian" is due to hit theaters on October 2nd.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return.
