Black Mass — Final Trailer

James "Whitey" Bulger was a notorious Boston kingpin in the '70s. He was involved in almost every criminal transaction in town. He was also an FBI informant -- meaning, he was untouchable.

How the FBI allowed this infamous Boston gangster to literally get away with murder is the basis of the upcoming crime film "Black Mass." And a new trailer, released today, shows Johnny Depp at his most devilish as he portrays Bulger with equal parts swagger and menace.

Directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace), the film boasts an all-star cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon and Corey Stoll as the FBI officials while Peter Sarsgaard, Dakota Johnson, and Jesse Plemons play Bulger's known associates.

"Black Mass" is due to open in theaters on September 18th.

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James "Whitey" Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.
