Straight Outta Compton — Featurette: 'A Look Inside'

added: Thu, Jul 30th '15

So, how did a couple of kids from the streets of Compton wound up changing the music industry? It was simple, really. They just rapped about the truth.

A new featurette for "Straight Outta Compton" is offering another glimpse of the upcoming N.W.A. biopic, which chronicles the groundbreaking South-Central Los Angeles-based hip-hop group that spearheaded the gangsta rap movement in the late '80s and early '90s.

Directed by F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen, Friday) and produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, the film stars Paul Giamatti as music manager Jerry Heller who helped launch and managed the rap group's career during a time when they were being labeled as a serious menace to society, especially for their not-so-flattering lyrics about the LAPD.

"Straight Outta Compton" opens August 14th.

In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
