Acclaimed French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy, Incendies) confidently takes on Michael Mann-esque material with the highly explosive drug-cartel thriller "Sicario," starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro.

The film sees Blunt as a promising FBI agent who gets promoted to join an elite secret task force -- led by a mysterious American government operative (Brolin) and an equally mysterious Mexican military contractor (Del Toro) -- that operates in and around the U.S.-Mexico border. Their mission is to bring down a sadistic Mexican drug cartel -- though methods for doing so may come as a shock to those who aren't privy to the inner workings of America's never-ending war on drugs.

Written by actor-turned-screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, "Sicario" had a hugely successful premiere back in May at the Cannes Film Festival. The action thriller, which may be considered as a possible awards contender, will open in theaters on September 18th. In the meantime, you can check out the film's debut trailer, above.
