Sure, Marvel may have mastered the idea of expanding their comic book brand across multiple interconnecting feature films. But when it comes to the world of television, it's the DC universe that comes out on top.

Spearheaded by the series launch of "Arrow" and then "The Flash," a new Avengers-type superhero team-up series has already been brewing at the CW network. And as this week's television upfronts draw to a close, CW has released the very first trailer for their highly-anticipated new fall show "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," which brings together superhero TV characters that were first introduced on "Arrow" and "The Flash."

The team is headed up by The Atom, a billionaire tech mogul/genius named Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) and Firestorm, a fiery incarnation of two infused souls, one is a middle-aged professor, other is a young brawny scientist (played by Victor Garber and Robbie Amell, respectively).

The show will also introduce the winged superheroine Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) and the charming time traveler Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), plus re-introduce White Canary (Caity Lotz), an assassin believed to have been killed on the "Arrow" series, but has since been resurrected. Meanwhile, career criminals Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) apparently have accepted the position as the team's resident bad boys.

The group's main villain is the immortal Vandal Savage who commands a massive, powerful army and, like most supervillains, is hell bent on destroying the world.

"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is set to premiere in 2016.

"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" focuses on time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter, who has to recruit a rag-tag team of heroes and villains to help prevent an apocalypse that could impact not only Earth, but all of time.
