Mr. Holmes — International Trailer

Before he somehow gets fitted into a clock suit to play "Cogsworth" in director Bill Condon's live-action musical take of "Beauty and the Beast," Sir Ian McKellen will put on a top-hat and become the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes in Condon's latest drama "Mr. Holmes." Check out the film's new international trailer, above, which was just released online.

The film follows a long-retired and somewhat senile Holmes (McKellen) as he starts to work on a memoir, when he comes across an old unsolved case involving a distraught married couple. Now many years later, he must hurry and try to regain his memory of the case and finally put an end to his very last mystery.

Co-starring Laura Linney, Hiroyuki Sanada, Milo Parker, and Frances de la Tour. "Mr. Holmes" is currently scheduled to open in theaters on July 17th.

The story is actually set in 1947, following a long-retired Holmes living in a Sussex village with his housekeeper and rising detective son. But then he finds himself haunted by an unsolved 50-year old case. Holmes memory isn't what it used to be, so he only remembers fragments of the case: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.
