The thing about time-travel movies is that timelines can always be tampered with. Nothing is set in stone. Keep that in mind when watching this new trailer for "Terminator: Genisys," which toys with the idea of alternative timelines, almost to a puzzling degree.

As promised in the original film, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in this fifth "Terminator" installment. But he's much, much older now and, at one point, gets into a fight with his younger self.

Emilia Clarke, the mother of dragons on HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones," plays a different kind of mother all-together: Sarah Connor, the woman who births John Connor, the future leader of the Human Resistance. Sarah's days as a scared little valley girl are gone, replaced by an alternative existence in which she's a trained survivor who was largely raised by Schwarzenegger's T-800 cyborg.

Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) is still sent back in time by John (Jason Clarke), but he, too, is a little confused when Sarah turns out to be more fearless commando than defenseless victim.

Directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor: The Dark World) and co-starring Korean actor Byung-hun Lee (I Saw the Devil, G.I. Joe) as the infamous T-1000, "Terminator: Genisys" opens this summer, July 1st.

synopsis:
The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John's fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when Tech-Com spies reveal a new plot by Skynet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.

On the verge of winning the war against Skynet, Connor sends his trusted lieutenant Kyle Reese back through time to save his mother's life and ensure his own existence. But what he finds on the other side is like nothing he ever expected. After being orphaned at age 9 by a Terminator, Sarah Connor has since been brought up by another Terminator Model 101 programmed to protect her. This Terminator has then trained her to face her destiny, which she adamantly tries to reject.
