Earth is under attack. The city is being devoured by a giant-size Pac-Man. And Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, and Michelle Monaghan are humanity's last line of defense against an 8-bit race of space invaders in this video game-inspired action comedy from director Chris Columbus, of "Harry Potter" and "Mrs. Doubtfire" fame.

The just-released first trailer for "Pixels" envisions a world where infuriated aliens take on the form of classic arcade game characters, launching an all-out assault on humans when they misconstrued a video game feed as a declaration of war. Sandler plays Sam Brenner, a former video game champion, now home theater installer who is chosen by the U.S. President (James) to lead a team of high-scoring arcade players (Dinklage and Gad) to save the planet from total annihilation.

"Pixels" is based on a short film by graphic designer/commercial director Patrick Jean, which became a huge internet sensation in 2010. The upcoming comedy also stars Jane Krakowski, Sean Bean and Brian Cox. It's slated to open in theaters this summer, July 24th.

When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper has to call on his childhood best friend, ‘80s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
