Mr. Holmes — Teaser Trailer

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic super-sleuth character Sherlock Holmes will once again grace the big screen in a new film, but moviegoers shouldn't assume it'll be just another rehash of an origin story. It's actually quite the opposite.

Starring Ian McKellen in the title role, "Mr. Holmes" is a 1947-set film adaptation of author Mitch Cullin's 2005 novel "A Slight Trick of the Mind," which depicts Sherlock Holmes as a 93-year-old retiree suffering from early-onset dementia, who teams up with a young inquisitive boy (Milo Parker) to investigate an unsolved mystery from Sherlock's past.

The film also marks a reunion between McKellen and his "Gods and Monsters" director Bill Condon, who recently helmed the last two "Twilight" films. Although, Condon is probably better admired for writing and directing the acclaimed films, "Kinsey" and "Dreamgirls."

Co-starring Laura Linney, "Mr. Holmes" premiered to strong reviews last month at the Berlin International Film Festival. It will open in the UK in June, with a U.S. release to follow later in the year.
