The Lady in the Van — Trailer

Who would've thought Maggie Smith would have anything in common with legendary SNL comedian Chris Farley? But it seems in her new movie, the 80-year-old English actress has taken a page out of Farley's famous sketch character Matt Foley's playbook and is "living in a van!" Okay, maybe not down by the river, but her character could possibly be eating a steady diet of government cheese. Well, la-dee-frickin-da!

Check out the trailer for the forthcoming British dramedy "The Lady in the Van," which is based on a true story of an elderly eccentric homeless woman who lived out of her van for 15 years. What's even more bizarre, all that time her van was parked in front of the London residence of award-winning English playwright/screenwriter Alan Bennett, who in turned wrote a 1999 play about it, which also starred Smith.

The film reunites Bennett with stage/film director Nicholas Hytner. The two previously worked on the films "The History Boys" and "The Madness of King George," both of which were based on Bennett's critically acclaimed plays.

"The Lady in the Van" co-stars Alex Jennings, James Corden, and Frances de la Tour, and it slated to open in the UK in November with a US release set for December 11th.

Lady in the Van tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett and the singular Miss Shepherd, a woman of uncertain origins who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in Bennett's London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years.
