Mr. Holmes — Sneak Peek Clip

A sneak peek clip for the upcoming film "Mr. Holmes" provides an early look at Ian McKellen as an elderly and somewhat senile Sherlock Holmes.

The film is an adaptation of the 2005 novel "A Slight Trick of the Mind" by American author Mitch Cullin, which imagines Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic fictional detective as a 93-year-old retiree. Set in 1947, the premise concerns Sherlock and his efforts to solve an old case from his past -- a 50-year-old case that is deeply personal to him, yet he struggles to remember why.

Set to make its world premiere this month at the Berlin International Film Festival, "Mr. Holmes" reunites McKellen with director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga) with whom he last worked on the 1998 drama "Gods and Monsters." With that film, McKellen earned his first Oscar nomination for his moving portrayal of legendary "Frankenstein" director James Whale.

"Mr. Holmes" will have a theatrical release this summer.
