Don't let his good looks fool you. Deep inside the soul of actor Ryan Gosling is an artistically pretentious director just struggling to get out. A director that, apparently, has more things in common with David Lynch and Terrence Malick than, say, Spielberg or Cameron.

Gosling makes his directorial and writing debut with the upcoming midnight movie-esque, Lynchian fable "Lost River," and a trailer has just been released.

The film, which made its world premiere at last year's Cannes Film Festival, stars Mad Men's Christina Hendricks, Iain De Caestecker (TV's Agents of SHIELD), Doctor Who's Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Ben Mendelsohn (Gosling's co-star in "The Place Beyond the Pines").

Set in a fictional ghetto wasteland, "Lost River" tells a dream-like gothic story about a struggling single mother (Hendricks), her young adult son (De Caestecker) and his journey to find a river that leads to a mystical underwater town.

The film, which is scheduled to screen at this year's South by Southwest Film Festival in March, is both hitting theaters and Digital HD on April 10th.

"Lost River" is a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for survival in the face of danger. In the virtually abandoned city of Lost River, Billy (Christina Hendricks), a single mother of two, is led into a macabre underworld in her quest to save her childhood home and hold her family together. Her teenage son Bones (Iain De Casestecker) discovers a mystery about the origins of Lost River that triggers his curiosity and sets into motion an unexpected journey that will test his limits and the limits of those he loves.
