Angelica — Teaser Trailer

Mitchell Lichtenstein, the filmmaker behind 2007's cult movie "Teeth," has a new film coming out this year, which also deals with a taboo subject matter: sexual hysteria.

Lichtenstein adapts author Arthur Phillips' 1880-set spellbinding novel "Angelica," in which Jena Malone (Inherent Vice, The Hunger Games) stars as a young Victorian woman suffering from a bizarre sexual condition that inexplicably develops into a malicious supernatural entity.

After nearly dying while giving birth to her baby daughter, Constance (Malone) is ordered to practice sexual abstinence for the rest of her married life. However, her lustful urges and nightly frustrations soon manifest themselves in a poltergeist form, terrorizing her doctor husband (Ed Stoppard), her sympathetic mother-in-law (Janet McTeer) and her innocent child, "Angelica."

The film is making its world premiere next week at this year's Berlin International Film Festival. Watch a teaser trailer (above), courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter.

In Victorian England, sexual repression opens a rift between young couple Constance and Joseph after the birth of their daughter Angelica. As Constance becomes more and more protective of little Angelica, a ghostly predator begins to make its way through the house late at night... ANGELICA is a spellbinding ghost story about desire, repression and its consequences...
