Stuart Murdoch, the frontman for the indie Scottish pop group "Belle & Sebastian," makes his film debut as the writer-director of the upcoming quirky musical "God Help The Girl," starring Sucker Punch's Emily Browning as a young, wistful woman who combats her depression by starting a twee-pop band with two equally-neurotic musicians (played by Penny Dreadful's Olly Alexander and Game of Thrones' Hannah Murray).

The coming-of-age film, inspired by Murdoch's own 2009 side-project album of the same name, has received a promotional music video (courtesy of stereogum.com), featuring the title track performed by Browning.

Opening in the UK later this month, "God Help The Girl" is currently scheduled to hit New York and Los Angeles on September 5th. The film will also be available on iTunes and VOD on that same date.

From writer/director Stuart Murdoch (lead singer of beloved indie pop group Belle & Sebastian) comes the most delightfully different musical of the year. Eve (Emily Browning) is a catastrophe -- low on self-esteem but high on fantasy, especially when it comes to music. Over the course of one Glasgow summer, she meets two similarly rootless souls: posh Cass (Hannah Murray) and fastidious James (Olly Alexander), and together they decide there's only one thing to do: form a pop group.
