Angelina Jolie has won an Oscar for acting, but will she win one for directing? A question many will likely ask themselves after watching this new trailer for the much-anticipated drama "Unbroken."

Serving as both director and producer, Jolie takes on the daunting challenge of bringing the incredible life story of WWII hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini to the silver screen. Slated for December, the film has already garnered Oscar buzz. And for good reason: the movie is based on the best-selling non-fiction book by "Seabiscuit" author Laura Hillenbrand, which detailed the astonishing account of Zamperini's life as an Olympic distance runner, a WWII airman and a Prison-Of-War survivor.

Portrayed by rising actor Jack O'Connell ("Starred Up" and "300: Rise of an Empire"), Zamperini, who sadly passed away last week at age 97, was widely recognized for his harrowing survival tale, which began in 1942 when his B-24 bomber plane crash landed in the middle of shark-infested waters. Zamperini and two of his crewmen were lucky enough to survive 47 days in the Pacific Ocean, but unlucky enough to be picked up and captured by the Japanese. Years in a brutal POW camp followed, but decades later Zamperini eventually forgave his tormentors in an inspiring act of forgiveness and grace.

"Unbroken" also stars Domhnall Gleeson, Finn Wittrock, Garrett Hedlund, John Magaro and John D'Leo. It opens on Christmas Day, December 25th.

synopsis:
Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII -- only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand's ("Seabiscuit: An American Legend") enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini's unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.
