David Fincher hasn't directed a feature film since "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," but he returns this year with another highly-anticipated book-to-movie adaptation, "Gone Girl," starring Ben Affleck as a man accused of killing his wife. And while it won't be hitting theaters until October 3rd, you can still get your first taste as the debut trailer arrives online.

The upcoming film tells the story of Nick Dunne (Affleck), a suspicious failed writer who finds himself in the middle of a media storm and accused of murder when his wife of five years suddenly goes missing. Jack Reacher's Rosamund Pike co-stars as Nick's presumed-dead spouse, Amy Dunne, in the twisty whodunit thriller based on Gillian Flynn's international bestseller.

Flynn, who was a TV critic for Entertainment Weekly before becoming a best-selling author, wrote the film's screenplay and supposedly retooled the story's final act. So perhaps, fans of the book shouldn't expect the same exact twist-ending as it seems Flynn and Fincher are cooking up some new surprises.

GONE GIRL -- directed by David Fincher and based upon the global bestseller by Gillian Flynn -- unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?
