FX's Fargo — Trailer

No, your eyes and ears aren't deceiving you. That's really English actor Martin Freeman in the new 60-second trailer for FX's upcoming limited series, which is inspired by the Coen Brothers' 1996 dark crime comedy "Fargo" -- and yes, the BBC's "Sherlock" and "The Hobbit" star is in fact speaking in a Minnesotan accent and looking quite panicky: "I didn't do nothing, I j-just got home."

Akin to William H. Macy's character in the film, although not exactly the same person, Freeman stars as an insurance salesman who, after meeting a shady slimeball (played by Billy Bob Thornton), gets sucked into a situation that quickly goes awry.

Other storylines in the 10-episode dramedy will be populated by Kate Walsh as a gold-digging widow, Adam Goldberg as a big-city hitman and Colin Hanks and Bob Odenkirk as two keystone cops. Showrunner Noah Hawley ("Bones") cast relatively newcomer Allison Tolman for the lead female role of the perky inquisitive deputy, which seems to have been inspired by Frances McDormand's clever detective character.

Created with the Coen Brothers' approval (as they're serving as executive producers), "Fargo" premieres on FX starting on Tuesday, April 15th.

synopsis:
An original adaptation of the Academy Award-winning feature film, Fargo features an all-new "true crime" story and follows a new case and new characters, all entrenched in the trademark humor, murder and "Minnesota nice" that made the film an enduring classic.

Oscar-winner Billy Bob Thornton stars as "Lorne Malvo," a rootless, manipulative man who meets and forever changes the life of small town insurance salesman "Lester Nygaard," played by BAFTA Award-winner and Emmy-nominated Martin Freeman. Colin Hanks plays Duluth Police Deputy "Gus Grimly," a single dad who must choose between his own personal safety and his duty as a policeman when he comes face-to-face with a killer. Allison Tolman also stars as "Molly Solverson," an ambitious Bemidji deputy.
