The Monuments Men — International Trailer

How did eight ordinary art experts go behind enemy lines and saved some of history's greatest masterpieces from Hilter's army? If the movie gods were kind that question would have been answered in just a couple of weeks, as initially George Clooney's potential award contender "The Monuments Men" was set to open later this month. That is, obviously, not the case now as the star-studded WWII dramedy (which is based on author Robert M. Edsel's non-fiction bestseller) has reportedly been pushed back to next year, opening now on February 7th.

Though not necessarily a consolation prize, eagerly-awaiting viewers can be pleased that a new international trailer has been released for the upcoming film that stars Clooney, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban and Hugh Bonneville.

The newest peek further demonstrates the gravity of the mission -- these voluntarily enlisted men didn't just aim to save priceless artworks from a very possible demise but also wanted to preserve some of mankind's greatest historical achievements for generations to come.

Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, 'The Monuments Men' is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys - seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 - possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind's greatest achievements.
