The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug — Featurette (Beorn's House)

added: Mon, Nov 11th '13

It might be titled "The Desolation of Smaug," but the newest featurette for Peter Jackson's second installment of The Hobbit trilogy focuses on that other beastly character from Middle-Earth: Beorn, the gigantic skin-changer who has a serious propensity to turn hairy at times -- or how Ian McKellen plainly describes it as "a man who's sometimes a bear ... or a bear who is sometimes a man."

Thanks to the people at Denny's (of all places), you can have a wonderful peek inside Beorn's eye-catching house, and get a glimpse at some of the meticulous handiwork that went into designing an actual giant-size film set, which made the actors feel like real-life hobbits and dwarves.

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens nationwide December 13th.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
