added: Mon, Nov 4th '13

During Monday's live-stream fan event, a brand-new "sneak peek" trailer for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" was shown, featuring all-new footage that revolves around Bilbo and his thirteen Dwarf companions and their courageous quest to "destroy the dragon" and "take back their homeland." But for anyone who missed the live-streaming event, you'll be happy to know that particular preview for Peter Jackson's eagerly-awaited Tolkien sequel has now been officially released online.

The exciting 3-minute-long trailer shows the audacious group encountering a string of angry-looking creatures, including spiders, dragons, orcs and morally-conflicted elves who are not too keen about Dwarves reclaiming the Arkenstone. As Gandalf so eloquently puts it, "they're all in grave danger."

You can expect the adventure to continue when "The Desolation of Smaug" opens nationwide on December 13th.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
