added: Thu, Oct 3rd '13

During last night's prime time hours of television, Warner Bros. debuted two new 60-second TV Spots for Peter Jackson's second chapter of his Tolkien trilogy "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," check it out above in case you missed it. Unfortunately, both previews do not appear to have any new footage from the film, they are both merely sixty-second breakdown versions of the two previously released trailers. But they are still friendly reminders that we are getting closer and closer to the film's approaching release date.

In the film, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) continues his journey through the mountains of Middle Earth, along with his thirteen dwarf companions (led by Richard Armitage), who must find their way to reclaim their kingdom of Erebor. Standing in their way is a fire-breathing, gigantic dragon named Smaug (voiced by a motion-captured Benedict Cumberbatch) -- and perhaps another cause for concern is the slightly suspicious Elvenking, Thranduil (played by Lee Pace), who is also the regal father of Legolas (Orlando Bloom).

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is set to open wide on December 13th.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
