Metallica: Through the Never — Film Clips

Chronicle's Dane DeHaan has a new acting role, where he plays a wide-eyed errand boy who finds himself stranded in the middle of downtown Los Angeles during the onset of a massive street uprising. It looks like something out of a Mad Max movie, but strangely enough, it's not even a movie. It's a 3D concert film for IMAX theaters that features, arguably, the greatest heavy metal band in history: Metallica!

Interspersed between new concert footage, "Metallica: Through the Never" has a narrative storyline that deals with DeHaan's "roadie" character, who goes into the city for a menial task, but gets sucked into a firestorm of chaos. Hmm, how will that work? Well, a couple of film clips have been released online, giving a look at what "Through the Never" director Nimrod Antal did in order to blend a real-life high-octane concert with a fictional apocalyptic showdown between rioters and police officers. It's definitely "heavy metal," to say the least. Watch it, above.

"Metallica: Through the Never" opens in IMAX 3D on September 27th, with a wide release on October 4th.

Award-winning filmmaker Nimrod Antal creates a groundbreaking 3-D motion picture event, Metallica Through the Never. The music-driven feature film combines a bold narrative and spectacular live-performance footage of one of the most popular and influential rock bands in history to produce a bracing, raw and visceral cinematic experience. Emerging young star Dane DeHaan portrays Trip, a young roadie sent on an urgent mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena.
