Labor Day — Sneak Peek Clip

Filmmaker Jason Reitman is known for critically-acclaimed comedies featuring slightly unstable people (Young Adult, Up in the Air and Juno). His latest effort, "Labor Day," a big screen adaptation of author Joyce Maynard's 1987-set novel, is nowhere near a comedy, but according to the film's sneak peek clip, Reitman is clearly not done with telling stories about slightly unstable people.

Here, Kate Winslet plays a lonely single mother who discovers her newest acquaintance (Josh Brolin) is, in fact, an escaped convict running from the law. And it just so happens that her cozy home would make the perfect hideout for the night. But the fact that Winslet's character is slightly unstable, she offers him more than just shelter -- she offers her hand in his escape, to which her son (Gattlin Griffith) looks on with quiet disbelief.

After the film's recent premiere at Telluride, buzz has been building around Winslet's performance as the overly-accommodating pseudo-hostage who enters into an unconventional romance with Brolin's character. So, don't be surprised if this one-time golden-statuette winner is invited back to the Oscars for her 7th go-around.

"Labor Day" hits theaters December 25th, before expanding wide in January.

Depressed single mom Adele and her son Henry offer a wounded, fearsome man a ride. As police search town for the escaped convict, the mother and son gradually learn his true story as their options become increasingly limited.
