Moon Man — Trailer

He comes from that big cheese wheel in the sky, but sounds a lot like E.T. "Moon Man" is a traditional 2D animated feature that's based on the acclaimed 1966 children book by French illustrator Tomi Ungerer, which tells the fantastical tale about The Man on the Moon and his impulsive visit to Earth. Naturally, Moon Man's unexpected visitation causes an uproar with the human adults -- the President dictates an aggressive search-and-capture mission while the children wants him safely back home.

With themes like friendship and narrow-minded fear, you can't help but wonder if the original book had some kind of influence on Steven Spielberg's stranded-alien masterpiece. In any case, it certainly seems German-born filmmaker Stephan Schesch, who makes his directorial debut with "Moon Man," might have thought of Spielberg's E.T. when making this animated version of Ungerer's picture book. But don't take our word for it, you can judge for yourself by watching the film's U.S. trailer, above.

"Moon Man" is now available this week on iTunes, Netflix, Amazon, and other VOD platforms.

The man on the moon is bored. One day, he hitches a ride to Earth on the tails of a passing comet -- an "attack from outer space" that sets the alarm bells ringing in the President's headquarters -- and starts to explore the fantastical creatures and sights of a new planet. But all is not well -- the Moon Man's absence from his post means that all the world's children are unable to sleep. Before the President can capture him, they must join forces to return him to his rightful place in the sky.
