Summertime at the movies is not complete without a bad-ass science-fiction flick. So, that's why "Elysium," writer-director Neill Blomkamp's follow up to "District 9", has to be the summer's top choice. Yet, if you still not convinced, then you should take a gander at the film's newest 30-second TV Spot, which pretty much displays everything you would want to see in a preview: gadgets, robots, space stations, space ships, bald heads, and tattoos. Not to mention, one Matt Damon, who stars as an Earthbound factory worker who discovers his health insurance really, really sucks after a poisonous workplace accident gives him a death sentence. Now with only five days to live, Damon -- who has permanently implanted a robotic exoskeleton -- sets out to break into the only place that's equipped to save his life: Elysium, a giant-size space station floating above Earth, exclusively occupied by the stinkin' rich.
"Elysium" co-stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Diego Luna and Alice Braga. It will open nationwide on August 9th.
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (JODIE FOSTER), a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (MATT DAMON) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
