The 60-sec. TV spot for director Robert Schwentke's "R.I.P.D." kicks off with a sequence involving Ryan Reynolds' cop character, Nick Walker, who quickly gets killed in action and then hurled into the heavens. Ah, don't worry, it's not a spoiler. It simply sets the ball rolling for this supernatural buddy-cop comedy, based on Peter Lenkov's off-the-wall comic book, about a newly-deceased lawman (Reynolds) who gets recruited to a very special police department (where dead officers are tasked with capturing shadowy souls who have managed to hide themselves among the living) and soon paired with a new training officer -- a wacky Old West cowboy named Roy Pulsipher. Naturally, he's played by Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges.

"R.I.P.D" also stars Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon, James Hong and Marisa Miller, and is slated to open in theaters July 19th.

Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth. Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance...or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.
