How can we describe R.I.P.D.? Yes, it's a buddy cop movie with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. And yes, it's a new action comedy from "Red" director Robert Schwentke. It could also possibly be the strangest thing you'll see in theaters this summer, if the film's debut trailer is any indication.

Here, Reynolds plays Nick Walker, a modern-day cop that is sadly killed unexpectedly, but gets a divine opportunity to catch his killer. However to do so, he'll have to join a special police bureau called Rest-In-Peace Department (R.I.P.D.), which is specifically designed for deceased officers to hunt down evil souls that have escaped to Earth. And he must agree to work with a Wyatt Earp-esque partner named Roy Pulsipher (Bridges). But how can two dead cops walk among the living and not get recognized? Aha! It seems the living view them in a totally different way: Pulsipher is camouflaged as a woman who resembles supermodel Marisa Miller, while Nick's Earth-bound avatar is (shall we say) less flattering. Yup, this is definitely not your average cop movie.

Based on a Dark Horse comic book by TV writer Peter M. Lenkov, the film also stars Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon, Stephanie Szostak, and Mike O'Malley. It slated to hit theaters on July 19th.

Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth. Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance...or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.
