High-adrenaline filmmaker Michael Bay (Transformers, Pain and Gain) is taking his brand of action to cable television, executive producing a gritty pirate series for the Starz premium channel called "Black Sails." It's a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure tale "Treasure Island," in which English actor Toby Stephens (Die Another Day) stars as the tough-as-nails Captain Flint during his early years of pillaging lands, and plundering various booty, while struggling to keep his rowdy men at bay -- you know, pirate's stuff.
The eight-episode series was created by Jon Steinberg (Jericho) and Robert Levine (Touch) and will be premiering on Starz in 2014. Here's an early peek at the show, watch it above.
The highly anticipated pirate adventure, Black Sails, centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "Treasure Island." Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day -- a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.
