Tired of awesome-looking special effects? Who needs them anyway? Certainly not Canadian director Steven Kostanski. The FX in his shoestring sci-fi feature "Manborg" looks like it was made out of black duct tape, discarded computer parts, and wishful thinking. That's not to say, it distracts the movie from its screwball plot about a fallen soldier who's brought back from the grave to fight an army of demons as a weaponized cyborg. The DIY visuals seem to only enhance the charming cheese factor. Nevertheless, if you're looking for something other than a throwback of 80s-era videotape cinema, "Manborg" won't rank on your must-see list. Yet, it could be a nice alternative to those viewers who are fed up with big-budgeted spectacles. "Manborg" will be released, rather appropriately, on DVD on April 30th, courtesy of Dark Sky Films. Watch the ridiculous trailer, above.
The armies of hell have taken over the Earth, and all that stands in the way of the villainous Count Draculon (Adam Brooks) and humanity’s total extinction is a motley crew of misfits led by the mighty Manborg (Matthew Kennedy): a warrior who’s half-man, half-machine -- and all hero!
