With a title like "Java Heat," we can only assume the filmmakers behind this tawdry action-thriller weren't trying to win the approval of jaded critics. Even so, die-hard action buffs may take issue with the film's overwhelming cheese factor. But hey, if you like the idea of watching Twilight star Kellan Lutz playing a trouble-making American who joins an Indonesian-Muslim detective (Ario Bayu) on a risky mission to bring down a psychotic terrorist (played by a wacky-accented Mickey Rourke), then "Java Heat" might be your new guilty pleasure. Get a peek of some of the cheesy goodness and watch the trailer, above.
"Java Heat" opens theatrically on May 10th, followed by a VOD release on May 13th.
After terrorist attack rocks Indonesia and kills the country's much beloved Sultana and her daughter is kidnapped, Jake (Lutz), a reckless American tough guy who becomes embroiled in the turmoil ensuing the attacks. Jake is bent on vengeance but quickly finds the world a more complicated place than he can solve with violence alone. Lost among labyrinths of religious, political and cultural havoc, Jake must ally with cerebral Muslim detective Hashim (rising Indonesian star Ario Bayu), who handles Jake more like a suspect than a partner. The uneasy friendship leads to a treacherous man-hunt for the attack's real instigator, a new breed of klepto-terrorist (Rourke), who is even more twisted and terrifying than the Jihadist terrorists he hides behind.
