How do you follow up an unbelievable film debut? Well, it's simple, make sure your next project is bigger and better. That seems to be the case for South African-born filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, whose upcoming sci-fi extravaganza "Elysium" is a confident leap forward. Like his previous effort "District 9," which masked modern-day issues with futuristic wizardry, "Elysium" deals with the enormous gap between two social classes: The wealthy one-percenters who conduct their lives in a large luxurious space station called Elysium. And then, there's the ill-fated, Earth-bound slum dwellers who are forced to trudge in their deteriorating planet.

Matt Damon plays one such unfortunate bald-headed soul named Max, who finds himself in a dire situation, which requires him to do the impossible: break into Elysium by posing as a rich businessman.

The film, also starring Jodie Foster, William Fichtner, Diego Luna, Alice Braga and Sharlto Copley, will be hitting theaters on August 9th. In the meantime, you can watch the film's breathtaking debut trailer, posted above.

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (JODIE FOSTER), a government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (MATT DAMON) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
