Before the internet, before Netflix, and before DVRs, there was an unbelievable new invention called, the VHS tape! And for a better part of a decade, it was the only way you could watch your favorite movies over and over again. Remember those days -- or those popcorn-filled nights spent watching schlocky flicks from your local video rental shack?
Well, if your memory is a bit fuzzy, don't fret. Because there's a new documentary premiering at this year's SXSW film festival, which takes a much-needed look at the meteoric rise of the home-video revolution during the early 80s. It's called (naturally) "Rewind This!" And it comes from first-time feature director Josh Johnson and exec-producer Panos Cosmatos (the director of the retro thriller "Beyond the Black Rainbow"). They just released a trailer for the film, and it has all sorts of great nostalgia. Go ahead and take a look, above.
Home video changed the way the world consumed films. The cultural and historical impact of the VHS tape was enormous. REWIND THIS! is a documentary that traces the ripples of that impact by examining the myriad aspects of art, technology, and societal perceptions that were altered by the creation of videotape.
