With the help of English subtitles, you'll get the idea of what's being said. But that doesn't necessarily mean you'll understand exactly what's going on in this mind-boggling trailer for Stephen Chow's latest fantasy-comedy "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons." Though if you're a fan of Chow's earlier works (Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer), the sight of amazing action-choreography blending with brutal slapstick humor is something you should be used to. After all, it's what the Chinese action-star/filmmaker is known for.
But in "Journey to the West," Chow is seemingly mixing more than his brand of craziness. He's creating an off-the-wall movie version of the well-treasured 16th-century Chinese literature about a demon-destroying fantasy adventure that involves a couple of bizarre characters (for example, a disgusting pig-faced fighter and a spear-wielding monkey king).
The film -- starring Shu Qi (from 'The Transporter' and 'Tai Chi Zero' films) and Wen Zhang (from Jet Li's father-son drama 'Ocean Heaven') -- is supposedly heading to China next month. Yet, no word if this one is hitting the States anytime soon.
From legendary Chinese action-star and filmmaker Stephen Chow comes a new whimsical take on the "Journey to the West" legend about the adventures of a mischievous Monkey King. (via hollywoodreporter.com)
