The last time Antonio Banderas played an Arab was in John McTiernan's "The 13th Warrior," in which he played a humble ambassador who finds honor after fighting an evil clan of inbred cannibal freaks. In "Day of the Falcon," Banderas once again dons the elegant cotton headdress, starring as an Arabian king who gets corrupted by power after making vast riches by striking oil in his desert. Tahar Rahim (from "A Prophet" fame) plays his son who struggles to keep the peace between his stubborn father and his powerful father-in-law -- both of which are on the verge of war over the rightful use of their lands.
"Day of the Falcon" (also known internationally as "Black Gold") co-stars Mark Strong and Freida Pinto, and is directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud (Enemy at the Gates, Seven Years in Tibet). It will be available on VOD on February 1st, with a limited theatrical run starting on March 1st.
Day of the Falcon is an epic film that tackles honor, greed, betrayal and love between rival kingdoms. Just as the two groups cease to fight after years of bloodshed, oil is discovered between their territories, reigniting their once violent past. It’s now up to their children—young lovers who married in hopes of bringing the families together—to find a way to end the violence and to bring peace to the land.
