The domestic trailer has been released for "Lore," the German-language WWII drama from acclaimed Aussie filmmaker Cate Shortland (Somersault). Based on Rachel Seiffert's award-winning novel, The Dark Room, the film follows a 14-year-old German girl (played by newcomer Saskia Rosendahl) who, after learning her Nazi parents have been arrested and taken away, is forced to look after her younger siblings as they set off for an extremely long and agonizing journey to their grandmother's house.
Following its debut at TIFF last September, the film will be hitting Stateside starting on February 8th, in limited release.
When her SS officer father and mother, a staunch Nazi believer, are captured by the victorious Allies at the end of World War II, the 14-year-old German girl Lore (striking newcomer Saskia Rosendahl) must lead her four siblings on a harrowing journey across a devastated country. When she meets the charismatic and mysterious young refugee Thomas (Kai Malina, The White Ribbon), Lore soon finds her world shattered by feelings of hatred and desire as she must put her trust in the very person she was always taught to hate in order to survive.
