If last week's Golden Globes proved one thing, it's Tommy Lee Jones has no time for foolishness. Especially when the recent Oscar-nominee is seen later in the year in a new historical drama "Emperor," in which he will be portraying General Douglas MacArthur, the legendary WWII hero known for his rigid appearance and trademark corncob pipe. Inspired by a true story, the film takes a look at how MacArthur led a 10-day mission at the end of the war to decide whether Japanese Emperor Hirohito should be killed for war crimes or be saved from a hanging.

In the movie's first trailer, we see Jones is starring opposite Matthew Fox, who's playing General Bonner Fellers, the real-life Japanese expert who was assigned by MacArthur to find out if the Emperor had any involvement with the infamous Pearl Harbor attack. It looks like a nice and meaty movie role for the TV actor, whose recent move to film has been less than stellar.

Directed by Peter Webber (Girl with a Pearl Earring), "Emperor" will be opening in theaters later in the year, though an official release date has not been announced.

As General Douglas MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones) suddenly finds himself the de facto ruler of a foreign nation, he assigns an expert in Japanese culture -- General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox), to covertly investigate the looming question hanging over the country: should the Japanese Emperor, worshiped by his people but accused of war crimes, be punished or saved? Caught between the high-wire political intrigue of his urgent mission and his own impassioned search for the mysterious school teacher (Eriko Hatsune) who first drew him to Japan, Fellers can be certain only that the tricky subterfuge about to play out will forever change the history of two nations and his heart.
