Yelling to the Sky — Trailer

If you ever wished Precious could rise up from her sad hole and start bullying her classmates, well here ya go! Watch Gabourey Sidibe as a fist-waving mean girl in this freshly-released trailer for "Yelling To The Sky," the small urban drama from first-time writer/director Victoria Mahoney. Zoe Kravitz (from X-Men: First Class) is actually the one who stars in this gritty coming-of-age tale about a mixed-race teen girl struggling to balance her troubled school life with her abusive situation at home involving her alcoholic white father (Jason Clarke).

If you think it looks and sounds a lot like a so-so-version of Precious, well you're not alone. The movie received a less-than-warm reception when it premiered in festivals last year. Though most critics agreed, the acting from Kravitz was top-notch, and affirms her status as someone to watch. "Yelling To The Sky" debuts on Video-On-Demand and in New York this Friday, December 14th.

In this gripping urban drama, rising star Zoë Kravitz plays 17-year old Sweetness O’Hara, the daughter of an African American mother and a white father, who is struggling to find her place in a rough inner city neighborhood. Her father is either absent or abusive; her mixed race background makes her an outsider; and drugs and violence abound. Sweetness finds herself in a downward spiral of drug dealing, shoplifting and fights with a bully (played by Gabourey Sidibe, Precious) before a series of events leads her to rethink her life and to explore her options for a fresh start...
