It was extremely unusual. But after bankrolling a pricey marketing campaign, which included previews, ads and a coveted Super Bowl spot, Paramount, at the eleventh hour, decided to yank "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" from their 2012 summer schedule. The reason? The studio claimed the date shift was due to a last-minute decision to convert the film into 3D (a process that would take many, many months). Though rumors claimed it had something to do with Paramount ordering re-shoots concerning the expansion of Channing Tatum's purported cameo role. Whatever the case, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" is back on track, and ready to grab your attention once again -- starting with this brand-new, action-filled trailer. Take a look, above.
To quickly refresh your memory: the movie finds the Joes at their lowest point. After suffering a brutal ambush, resulting in the death of most of their company, team leader Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson) rallies a bare-bone crew (including Bruce Willis as the original GI Joe) for one final, and impossible mission: bring down a corrupt US government that has been infiltrated by the evil Cobra Commander. "Retaliation" arrives in theaters on March 29th.
A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.
