Don't be fooled, "Welcome to the Punch" is not a movie about Manny Pacquiao's recent knockout defeat. Though, we do see James McAvoy going toe-to-toe with Mark Strong in this UK trailer for the new British crime thriller. Here, McAvoy stars as a tenacious police detective who gets a second shot at catching his lawless nemesis (Strong) when he comes out of hiding to visit his ailing son in the hospital. What unfolds is an exhilarating cat-and-mouse game with a ton of gun play and a slow-motion action sequence that would make John Woo say, "Okay, that's cool!"
Written and directed by Eran Creevy, "Punch" also stars David Morrissey, Peter Mullan and Andrea Riseborough. Set to open in the UK in March, the movie was recently picked up by IFC films, though an official US release date has not been announced.
The second feature from acclaimed British music video director and filmmaker Eran Creevy, WELCOME TO THE PUNCH is the story of two arch-nemeses: detective Max Lewinsky (James McAvoy) and master criminal Jacob Sternwood (Mark Strong). When Sternwood escaped three years ago after a daring robbery, Max was left emotionally and physically scarred. But after Sternwood's son turns up in a hospital due to a failed heist, he’s forced to return to London -- giving Max his second chance to get the one criminal who got away. Yet as Max delves deeper into the case he uncovers a vast conspiracy. Featuring rising star Andrea Riseborough and Peter Mullan, the film was shot in the gleaming streets of London's rejuvenated East End and the banking center of Canary Wharf. Executive produced by Ridley Scott, WELCOME TO THE PUNCH is a sleek modern thriller.
