For a movie based on one of the oldest forms of entertainment (radio serials), "The Lone Ranger" doesn't look old-fashioned at all. Gone are those kitschy costumes of old, replaced by muted color suits accompanied by long-faced attitudes. This is not your grandfather's Long Ranger -- or, for that matter, not your grandfather's western adventures. It's a message that Disney is trying to deliver, and it looks like they may have succeeded with the movie's brand-new trailer (posted above).
Showcasing Armie Hammer as lawman John Reid, the full-length preview further explores the origins of the masked hero -- a detail that really wasn't touched upon in the first trailer released a few months back. It appears director Gore Verbinski hasn't shied away from shooting massive action set-pieces. With the summer filled with big movies, Verbinski seems to be trying his best to differentiate his film from the pack. But, really, can any of those other summer movies say it features Johnny Depp dressed as a mystical spirit warrior named Tonto. No, they cannot.
"The Lone Ranger" opens nationwide on July 3rd.
