Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Liz Garbus (Bobby Fischer Against the World, and The Farm: Angola, USA) has returned with "Love, Marilyn," a new interesting film about the life of screen legend Marilyn Monroe as told through the personal writings she left in never-before-seen diaries, and intimate personal letters.
Current screen actresses, including Elizabeth Banks, Ellen Burstyn, Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Uma Thurman, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood, will each appear in the film portraying Marilyn, speaking from her own words. Also appearing are Adrien Brody, Paul Giamatti, Oliver Platt, David Strathairn, F. Murray Abraham, Jack Huston, Jeremy Piven, and Stephen Lang as the men in Marilyn's life. The movie will have a limited screening in New York starting this weekend, and will air on HBO sometime in 2013.
Drawing on never-before-seen personal papers, diaries and letters, Academy-award nominated director Liz Garbus works with acclaimed actresses to evoke the multiple aspects of the real Marilyn - passion, ambition, soul-searching, power and fear – in an absorbing and astonishing portrait. These documents, brought to life in this film by some of our contemporary icons and stars, give us a new and revelatory understanding of Monroe, revealing her carefully guarded inner life.
